The game of Rummy has attracted people from all across the world, and India is also no exception to this rule. Rummy is played almost all over the country. It holds a special place even amidst celebrations and festivals where groups of friends, relatives and even housewives gather together to play and enjoy the game. Also known as 'Paplu', this Indian version of the game is quite similar to Rummy 500 and Gin Rummy. Cards
A deck of 52 cards with one printed Joker can be used to play the game. However, depending on the number of players, the number of decks used in the game also vary.

The card Joker in Indian Rummy stands for any card that can substitute any other card of any value to complete a sequence or a set. However, as per game rules, there has to be one sequence without a joker to validate a show.
Apart from the printed Joker, after the cards are dealt, one card from the remaining deck is selected randomly as a wild card. This selected card also becomes the Joker for that particular round. All cards of the same rank irrespective of their suit are also considered Joker cards.

To win, one sequence in a hand has to be pure, and the other one can be either pure or impure. Once a player has two sequences, the next target is to group the remaining cards into valid sets and sequences and declare the result.
Determination of the Dealer
The determination of the first 'Dealer' in the game and the sitting positions are done keeping in mind the following:
Dealing of cards
The 'Dealer' shuffles the cards and allows the player towards their right to pick one randomly from the deck. That card is then placed face-up in the middle of the table, and the rest of the similar rank are wild for the hand. If a Joker is chosen for playing, the remaining Joker cards are the only wild cards.
The player to the left side of the dealer draws one random card from the shuffled deck and places it on the game table face-up to be visible to all. This card is known as the 'Joker'. All the same rank cards are turned up-card, and the printed Jokers are used as wild cards, and all these cards are known as 'Jokers'. If the turned-up card is a printed Joker, then there is just a single wild card available for use that is the other printed Joker.
The player towards the left of the dealer then cuts the remaining cards, and the Dealer distributes them in an anti-clockwise direction one at a time. A total of 13 cards are dealt to each player and the player to the Dealer's right gets the first card. One card is dealt face-up to begin the discard pile, and the remaining stack is then placed face-down in the centre of the table crosswise on top of the turned-up Joker card so that the Joker's rank remains visible to all players.
For the subsequent hand, the turn to deal the cards moves to the right, which continues until every player has dealt once, completing a "round". After playing one or two rounds in this fashion, the seating is changed again following the same starting procedure. Usually, a player should quit the game only at the end of around. Fans of Rummy must know the appropriate rules and ways to play the game both offline and online. The process of giving out cards to the players at the start of a round is termed as Dealing. The player to the Dealer's right begins the pl, and gameplay continues in a counter-clockwise direction. Every player's turn consists of picking up either the top card of the face-up discard stack or the face-down pile's top card. After taking this card into the hand, the player must discard one card from their hand face-up on top of the discarded pile.
If the particular player chooses to take the top card of the discarded pile, that specific card cannot be discarded away in the same turn. In this case, the player must discard a separate card.
The gameplay persists until a player, after choosing a card, holds 13 cards that form valid combinations. In this case, the player then discards the 14th card and declares 'Rummy', placing the rest 13 cards face-up to depict that they form the required runs and sets, and winning the game. In this form of Rummy, all the players keep all their cards hidden or invisible from the other players until a player can win.
If no face-down cards further remain in the stack and no one has also declared Rummy by the end of their turn in which the last stock card was taken, and the game has no winners.
Draw: The first player must take just one card either from the discarded pile and add this card to the 13 decks of cards of his or her hand. The discard pile is kept face up, and only the top card, known as the 'upcard' is visible. Since the cards are kept facing down on the table, the other players cannot see the card when choosing to take it from the stock.
Discard: After drawing, the players must examine the cards and decide which is the least needed card. It is likely to be a card probably not in sequence with the rest or is the only one of its kind. They can then take this card and place it on top of the discard pile, face up. Melds in Indian Rummy
The gameplay begins with the first player taking a card from the draw pile or the discarded pile and adding it to their hand, attempting melds. The turn then ends with the player discarding one card of their choice.
Sequence Meld: A sequence meld is usually three or more cards of the identical suit in a consecutive sequence. A sequence meld may also contain one or more wild cards.
Straight Meld: A Straight Meld is similar to a Sequence Meld, but it may not, however, contain wild cards.
Group Meld: It consists of three or four cards of a different suit's identical rank.
Tanala: A meld of three cards of a similar rank and the same suit is a Tanala. In this case, this meld is only possible when three decks are used when playing this game.
Few Special Indian Rummy Rules to Follow
Winning
A game of Indian Rummy finishes once each player at the game table has dealt. This is considered as one round of the game, and the player with the highest score at the end of the round emerges as the winner. End of Hand
When a player has organized all of their cards into runs or sets, has at least one natural or pure run or 'First Life' and has at least one other run, he or she can declare Rummy and win the hand.
